This course will introduce fundamental concepts of Human Computer Interface (HCI) design, usability issues, and integration within the healthcare delivery processes. Fundamentals of human interaction with computers including mental models, multimedia user interface, network-based interactions and visual design principles will be introduced. HCI in computerized physician order-entry systems, speech interfaces, computer-based tutoring systems for training health professionals, patient monitoring systems, information-retrieval systems and clinical decision-support systems will be analyzed.
