The Chang School’s Certificate in Food Security received The 2013 Sloan-C Special Recognition for Pedagogical Innovation Award. Congratulations to Food Security Academic Coordinator Reg Noble, as well as the Ryerson University’s School of Nutrition, Centre for Studies in Food Security, and The Chang School’s Community Services program area. The Sloan Consortium (Sloan-C) helps learning organizations to continually improve the quality, scale, and breadth of their online programs according to their own distinctive missions, so that education will become a part of everyday life, accessible and affordable for anyone, anywhere, at any time, in a wide variety of disciplines. Urban Agriculture Course Series
The Chang School is offering students who complete the four urban agriculture course electives in the Food Security program official University recognition of having completed a course series in Urban Agriculture. This offer is open to both new and past students. Those students who have already taken some of the urban agriculture courses can return and complete the course series. Likewise, certificate students can add a specialization in urban agriculture to their Food Security certificate.
The G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education, in partnership with Ryerson’s School of Nutrition and the Centre for Studies in Food Security, is proud to offer a post-degree Certificate in Food Security. This cutting-edge program is offered nowhere else in the world, and can be completed entirely through the convenience of distance education.
Research and practice across local, national, and international communities: these will be the core components of your studies. The Chang School’s Certificate in Food Security will introduce you to the following topics:
- hunger and poverty
- food policy and programs
- community development
- urban food security
- global nutrition
Our food security teaching team is recognized internationally in the field. Having lived and worked around the globe, they understand the challenges of implementing food security in Canada and the developing world.
You may choose to take one or two courses, or register for the entire six-course Certificate in Food Security. A benefit of studying with The Chang School is membership in a highly interactive, supportive online learning community. Most courses in the Certificate in Food Security can be completed online.
