Sustainability Management and Enterprise Process Excellence

A global transition is actively underway toward sustainability and sustainable development in the corporate, governmental, and NGO (voluntary, third, or civil society) sectors. Public expectations, market and political pressures, and simple common sense about the well-being of Earth as a shared home are all rapidly increasing and calling for you and your organization to operate with sustainable practices.

Today, we live in challenging times with a fractured, unsustainable society and economy. In response to a growing need to move the world toward sustainable development and sustainable practices, a whole new profession is emerging. Sustainability management is of strategic importance globally in order to enhance and maximize the organizational impacts of the principles of sustainability in order to enhance and maximize the organizational impacts of the principles of sustainability by addressing the social, economic, and environmental dimensions – also known as the Triple Bottom Line (TBL or 3BL) or People-Planet-Profits (PPP) issues.

This unique certificate provides the competencies identified as being most critical to the successful performance of professionals working in the field of sustainability management by applying high demand tools and techniques of Lean Six Sigma quality assurance to further address management challenges, problem solving, and solution execution. The students will have the ability to leverage Lean Six Sigma processes and decision making in order to achieve business, economic, and sustainability goals at their places of work.

Effective Fall 2014, the Certificate in Sustainability Management was renamed the Certificate in Sustainability Management and Enterprise Process Excellence.

  • Sustainability is a dynamic field that empowers by engaging with an unexpected breadth of human knowledge, disciplines, and professions. Thus, individuals with a degree in either the social sciences or natural sciences (including engineering, economics, architecture, business or commerce, politics or public policy, ecology or environment, marketing and communications, geography, sociology, psychology, physics, religious studies, theology, or similar), and professionals such as project managers: all can realize professional and personal benefits from studies in the Certificate in Sustainability Management, which creates a learning environment where all learners are encouraged to understand, contribute, create, and integrate knowledge about a 3BL/PPP sustainability from a much broader context beyond a more narrow area of technical expertise.
  • Mid-career professionals who wish to better understand how to apply 3BL sustainability concepts to their organizations, and those wishing to introduce sustainability features into their decision-making and operations.
  • Policy makers who wish to better understand how sustainability concepts and practices can be translated into public policy.
