In collaboration with the Ryerson’s English as an Additional Language Institute (REAL), The Chang School offers the following ESL/EAL programming:

Ryerson ESL Foundation Program (RESLFP)

The Ryerson ESL Foundation Program (RESLFP) is designed for students who are academically qualified to apply for admission to a Ryerson University undergraduate program, but do not meet the minimum English proficiency requirements. It offers intensive English language and academic skills instruction combined with undergraduate course work. Students who successfully complete the Ryerson ESL Foundation Program are admitted to Ryerson degree programs with at least one undergraduate course credit and a strong foundation for academic success.

Content-based English courses

CLNG 111 Language and Identity, CLNG 112 Language: Spoken and Written, and CLNG 113 Language and Public Life are Lower Level Liberal Study courses for students already enrolled or planning to enrol in undergraduate courses at Ryerson University. These courses explore how language is used in private and public spaces and are designed to further students’ reading, critical thinking, and writing skills

Students interested in enrolling in these courses must take the ESL/EAL Online Placement Test.

ESL/EAL instruction for groups upon request

ESL/EAL courses for English proficiency levels CEFR B2–C1 (IELTS 5.5– 7.5) can be offered by request for groups. They may focus on English for general, academic, or specific purposes. For more information, please contact Marju Toomsalu at mtoomsal@ryerson.ca.
