1. What courses are offered in the Certificate in Computer Programming Applications, and what is the recommended order?

This certificate consists of six courses (four Required courses and two Elective courses). The Required courses are as follows:

The Elective courses may be chosen from one or more of seven streams. See the certificate page for more details.

Please note that various courses in the certificate require the successful completion of prerequisite courses. Please take care to note each course’s prerequisites when planning your course of study.

2. What are the certificate program fees?

Registration for the certificate is free. Individual course fees may be found by clicking on the course code links above.

3. Does the fee change if you are an international student?

The international fee rate for continuing education students is two and a half (2.5) times the regular student tuition fee for degree credit courses only.

4. Who is the target audience for this certificate?

This certificate is intended for current or aspiring adult professionals who have an interest in the subject for career advancement.

5. Are there any company affiliations or career placement assistance available as part of this certificate program?

There are no direct corporate associations or career placements available. However, related companies do contact The Chang School to ask for the contact information of our certificate graduates.

6. Is this certificate completed online or in class?

For the 2017–2018 academic year, the courses in this certificate can be completed entirely in class format or in a mixed in-class and online format. Please note, most courses are only offered in an in-class format. There are only a few Distance Education options.

7. How long will the certificate take to complete?

In general, most certificate candidates graduate within one calendar year of enrolling in courses. You may choose how quickly you want to complete all the required courses. You may take two or more courses every term (Fall, Winter, Spring/Summer).

8. What is the schedule of course offerings for 2017–2018?

9. Can I take more than one course in the evening and still hold my full-time job?

Yes. It is possible to take more than one evening course and still hold your full-time job. However, feel free to organize your schedule to suit your needs.

10. Can I substitute one of the courses in this certificate for a different course offered at The Chang School?

No. There are no course substitutions allowed in this certificate program.

12. How do I register for this certificate?

Step 1: If you are a new student, request a student ID.
Step 2: Activate your Ryerson online identity.
Step 3: Register in the certificate via the link in your RAMSS Student Centre. Visit Registration in a Certificate Program for more information.
Step 4: Enrol in all desired courses. Visit the Dates for Enrolment section of Enrolment.

15. Are any of the courses you offer available for substitution or transfer credit?

All courses in this certificate must be taken at The Chang School and are not eligible for course substitution. Transfer credit applications may be submitted for review.

16. Am I able to get financial aid?

This certificate qualifies for OSAP. The G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education and the Continuing Education Students’ Association of Ryerson (CESAR) offer a wide range of awards, bursaries, and scholarships for students who are eligible. 17. Which textbooks must I purchase for this certificate?

You will receive your textbook information on the Course Outline in the first week of class. Please do not pre-emptively buy any textbooks.
