CFRE 709 Children's Literature in French

This course will consider the evolution of literature written in French for children and adolescents from the 17th century onward. Representative texts will be chosen from genres including fairy tales, comic strips, children's theatre, didactic novels, and the "problem novel." Topics under study will include the relationship between word and image, the role of religious and educational institutions, censorship, cultural diversity, and the notion of childhood. (Lower-level liberal studies elective) (Upper-level liberal studies elective)
