CPOL 601 Social Movements and Politics

This course will examine social movements that effect political change, their historical roots, their international dimensions, and the ways in which they fit within the social movement literature. Students will be introduced to the major approaches and debates in the academic study of social movements. Emphasis will be placed on understanding social movements historically and in context, especially in view of developments in political economy, expansions/contractions in popular democracy, and the impact of information technologies. (Upper-level liberal studies elective)
