CSOC 808 Sociology of Food and Eating

This course provides insights on social, historical and economic processes that shape what and how we eat. We will review how the food system is organized and how it affects people's food choices. We will discuss the relations between broader social and economic structures, such as class and gender relations, access to food, and everyday eating practices. We will also study causes of problems in the food systems, such as hunger, obesity and the farm crisis. (Upper-level liberal studies elective)
