This certificate program in Project Management provides adult learners with an opportunity to acquire a level of knowledge and expertise that will permit them to contribute effectively to the management and the control of costs within any project environment. The program was developed in cooperation with the Project Management Institute, Southern Ontario Chapter.

Admission Criteria

It is recommended that applicants have the following:

OSSD with six Grade 12 U or M credits, or equivalent; persons lacking some of these requirements will be considered on an individual basis taking into account work-related experience.

Undergraduate students wishing to pursue a continuing education certificate program should be aware of possible restrictions; please refer to Curriculum Advising for complete details.

Certificate Requirements

The successful completion of eight single-term courses, earned in one of the following ways:

  • five required core courses, two courses from three optional streams, and one course from the Elective category

OR

  • five required core courses and three courses from the general stream

Students must achieve a cumulative grade point average of 1.67 or higher to graduate.

Certificate Registration

Students may be registered in only one certificate program at any one time. To allow maximum flexibility in crediting external courses and/or courses previously taken at Ryerson, students should register in the certificate at the beginning of their first course (see also Courses and Programs FAQ). For complete details on the advantages of early registration, registration deadlines, and Transfer Credit restrictions, all students should read Registration in a Certificate Program.

Requirements for Graduation

To graduate, you must successfully complete the published certificate curricula from the year you registered in the certificate. Certificate requirements must be completed within six years from the time you were first admitted into the certificate program. In some circumstances, certificate requirements may change, resulting in courses no longer being available. In such cases, Course Substitutions/Directives may be requested. Also, you must apply on RAMSS to graduate, prior to the appropriate application deadlines (see Important Dates). For complete details, all students should read Graduation.

Recommended Sequence

Students are advised to take the Core Program courses in the following sequence: CITM 750 or CTEC 210, CKPM 203, CKPM 211, CKPM 212, CKPM 209. Students in the Business and Information Management stream are advised to take CITM 305 and CITM 410 first.

Condensed Scheduling Options

Condensed offerings represent one aspect of The Chang School’s innovative programming. For learners there are two options to complete courses in a condensed format:

Option 1

Through an intensive, 14-week program, CKPM 999 Project Management Fast Track participants can complete six of the eight courses for the Certificate in Project Management, and access specialized support in preparation for the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) or Project Management Professional (PMP) exam.

Option 2

By following an intensive schedule, it is possible to earn the certificate in two terms over 26 weeks by taking three courses in the first term and five courses in the second term.
