We are pleased to share access to Magnet with all Chang School learners and alumni. Magnet is a powerful job search resource that connects job seekers and employers.

What is it?

Magnet is an innovative tool that leverages a data-rich, job-matching technology platform to connect job seekers to employers based upon skills, qualifications, experience, preferences, and talent needs.

The Magnet network was founded by Ryerson University in 2014, in partnership with the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (which represents 60,000 businesses across Ontario), and already includes over 30 university and college partners, thousands of employers, and a growing list of employment-focused and community-based organizations.

Why Magnet?

The traditional “process” of looking for employment has remained largely unchanged over the years. Recruiters receive hundreds of applications, and job seekers spend hours applying for opportunities and “chasing” jobs, that are not suited to their interests and skills. Magnet was established on the premise that with the right technology can connect employers with the best talent quickly. Once you build a profile on Magnet, you have access to the following:

  • Connections to job opportunities that you are interested in and qualified for
  • Job Search Manager to track your external job search and help you grow your professional network
  • Full multimedia capability to differentiate your profile and showcase your talents
  • A better understanding of your market value and what you can do to improve it
  • The opportunity to privately and securely identify yourself as a member of any applicable employment equity group

How does it work?

Once you sign up and build a profile, Magnet’s technology begins by searching for the right employment opportunities to send to your inbox. You are notified of opportunities that fit your skills, qualifications, experience, and interests. Don’t wait for Magnet to notify you a new job. You can also apply to opportunities you find on the jobs board. To get started, sign up at and build your profile!
