1. How do I register in the Certificate in Foundations of International Management?

If you are new to Ryerson, or returning to Ryerson after a period of inactivity, you will need to create or reactivate a Student ID. Please see details on how to do this at Registration in a Certificate Program. Once you have your Ryerson Student ID and an active Ryerson Online Identity, you can register in the certificate program online. Note that these certificates do not require pre-approval and there is no fee for registering. Visit Registration in a Certificate Program for further details.

2. Which course(s) should I take first?

Students should first take CGMS 200: Intro to Global Management and/or CQMS 102: Business Statistics I as these courses are the prerequisites necessary for completing the remaining courses in the certificate. The following chart may help you plan:

3. Can I take a course before I register in the certificate?

Sometimes students prefer to take a course before committing to the certificate. This is permissible, but please note that courses accepted towards the certificate that are taken before you register are considered transfer credits. This means that the grades you receive for these courses will not count towards your GPA for the certificate.

Also, you may obtain a transfer credit for only 50 percent of the courses required for a certificate, that is, you must complete 50 percent of the courses in the certificate after you have been admitted to the certificate. The Certificate in Foundations of International Management requires four courses, and the transfer regulation means that two of your courses must be completed after you are enrolled in the certificate.

4. How long will it take to complete the certificate?

Most students will complete the certificate in one to two years. Ryerson requires that you complete the certificate within three years of your admission to the certificate program.

5. Can I apply the credits earned in this certificate to another Ryerson credential such as a degree?

All courses in the Certificate in Foundations of International Management are both degree and certificate credit, meaning that if you don’t yet have your degree, you may be able to transfer some credits to the BComm program at Ryerson, or to other universities subject to admission that meet the requirements of the degree program to which you are applying.

6. When do the courses run?

Most courses are run regularly. For more information about course scheduling, please see individual course listings. Click on the course code for more details about each course.

7. How much does each course cost?

The fee for each course varies. Click on the course code link for more information about the tuition fee for a particular course.

8. How much time is involved per week?

As a general guideline, you should allow three to five additional hours per week, per course, outside of the classroom hours. This will vary from week to week and will depend on your learning style, types of assignments, and other factors. For online courses, plan to spend an average of six to eight hours a week reading, participating in discussions, completing assignments, etc.
